वे पन्द्रह दिन वे पन्द्रह दिन   *१४ अगस्त, १९४७* - प्रशांत पोळ कलकत्ता.... गुरुवार. १४ अगस्त सुबह की ठण्डी हवा भले ही खुशनुमा और प्रसन्न करने वाली हो, परन्तु बेलियाघाट इलाके में ऐसा बिलकुल नहीं है. चारों तरफ फैले कीचड़ के कारण यहां निरंतर एक विशिष्ट प्रकार की बदबू वातावरण में भरी पड़ी है.   गांधीजी प्रातःभ्रमण के लिए बाहर निकले हैं. बिलकुल पड़ोस में ही उन्हें टूटी – फूटी और जली हुई अवस्था में कुछ मकान दिखाई देते हैं. *साथ चल रहे कार्यकर्ता उन्हें बताते हैं कि परसों हुए दंगों में मुस्लिम गुण्डों ने इन हिंदुओं के मकान जला दिए हैं. गांधीजी ठिठकते हैं, विषण्ण निगाहों से उन मकानों की तरफ देखते हैं और पुनः चलने लगते हैं.* आज सुबह की सैर में शहीद सुहरावर्दी उनके साथ नहीं हैं, क्योंकि उस हैदरी मंज़िल में रात को सोने की उसकी हिम्मत ही नहीं हुई. आज सुबह ११ बजे वह आने वाला है.   एक कार्यकर्ता उन्हें सूचित करता है कि ‘गांधीजी द्वारा आव्हान किए जाने की वजह से पूरे कलकत्ता शहर में हिंदुओं और मुसलमानों की संयुक्त रैलियाँ निकल रही हैं. *कल दिन भर से कलकता में दंगों की एक भी खबर नहीं आई है....
